At exactly midnight on December 31, every electronic device made in China for the last 30 years stops working!

From the U.S. electrical grid and all its back-ups, engine control-management systems, early warning systems on U.S. satellites, every motor vehicle, aircraft and ship made after 1985, to even simple memory chips inside children’s teddy bears—every electronic fuse, resistor, or connector that was “Made in China” becomes dormant… forever.

At one minute past midnight on January 1st, every modern television broadcast of the U.S. New Year’s Eve festivities on the East Coast black-out. Millions of motor vehicles with an engine management system or engine-computerized system suddenly die, causing loss of control and thousands of accidents only seconds into the New Year. Traffic lights, directional beacons, communication stations, and all aircraft landing systems black out a couple of minutes later, as their modern back-ups start failing. Children’s Christmas presents, nearly forgotten, stop buzzing, moving, and blinking and go silent. Radios, computers, and all forms of electronic communication devices—even the latest 132 million electronic Christmas presents given only a week earlier (iPhone 5Gs, IPod Nano 4s, IMac Notepads and iPad 3s) go silent, never to blink on again. Ninety seconds after midnight, the entire electrical grid of North America deactivates itself and goes into close-down mode.

The shutdown of the United States of America, and 97% of the entire world, is accomplished by 1230 am U.S. Eastern time on the first day of the New Year.

It takes only 30 minutes to completely dismantle the whole of modern Western civilization.

Review-

A "big picture" series Chinese maniacs versus U.S. resilience

This is the first of four novels based on the premise that China could dominate the world by destroying every other nation's modern electronics. The Chinese planned a sudden and violent take-over of the U.S. (in a matter of weeks!) due to bitter winter weather; America's own self-destruction fueled by unlimited private arms and ammo; and the absence of 1,250,000 troops all engaged in overseas wars. [Oh, yes, our author has a few "agendas" going on here.] Those who did not freeze were expected to fall to barbarism. America's new owners would arrive in New York with a special fleet of ships filled with food packs and Chinese passports for the few lucky serfs. (Men would all be killed; women enslaved.)

This "set up", while dubious, is sufficiently possible to ground the entire series. Most dystopian novels of WWIII show individual and community battles for survival. This series "steps back" from the terrors taking place around the world as mankind is reduced to "feudal age" mechanics; starvation; and the disappearance of any rule of law. Hundreds of millions in the US and billions around the world quickly die, but the individual stories of mayhem and slaughter are never explored in detail. Instead, we begin our odyssey through the eyes and lives of WWII propeller plane fanatics whose dated systems were not destroyed when China pushed its "destruct" command for millions of "made in China" computer chips, parts, and machines. The heroes and heroines who can "make do" with antiquated equipment are followed throughout the entire series.

The novels captivate, because our heroes are complex and admirable characters. From the start, they exhibit a ferocity of self-reliance and purpose to preserve first their fly-in farm, then their community, and finally, the nation. This first novel, to me, was the best so far. It includes a somewhat unusual "back-story" of Columbian drug trafficking and revenge which serves as the gritty preface to novels 3 and 4. There's lots of action; strong female leads; great armed service leaders, and lots of gutsy American know-how--but no "air to air" combat until later books.

Review Recommendation-

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

INVASION USA Book 1 The End of Modern Civilization edition by T I WADE Literature Fiction eBooks

This was an interesting book with a rather novel idea for the "end of the world" event as we know, the idea of a foreign group over 30 years infiltrating every electronic device did not fill me with a lot of belief, the longer these things go on the easier they are to be found out. Having said that I really liked the way the author developed the idea, built it up and made it very credible. I liked his character development of all his main characters giving background about who they are and where they came from. Often, I get bored with these but each character had a unique background that I found interesting, Carlos back story was a story all by itself with it's own action. mostly the only action in this book too, lol.

Obviously, the author loves aeroplanes and that came through strongly with his aeroplane detail and full explanations which does have relevance to the story especially at the beginning, otherwise readers would doubt why their planes worked. However, I hope this details does not continue too much in later books as after half way I was starting to skip the full descriptions of the planes and just accept it.

I was getting a bit frustrated about when the apocalyptic event was going to occur but then realised the author always intended the story to be a series and I would waiting until almost the end. I was expecting more action to have started and that is not the case in this book, this book is all about developing the characters, setting the scenes and putting everyone in their positions for the event to occur so no action really but with all the old weapons I am hopeful things will get hot soon. Yes, I will get the next book as I am keen to see how things go and what the action parts are like

This was a free download on my and one should always remember you get what you pay for. By way of all of the so-called "vanity press" and self publication applications the T. I. Wade's of the world can now officially call themselves published authors.

What sounded like an interesting premise is turned into a struggle as the first 60% of the book is 50% to long. The introduction of the characters, their development, and the interpersonal relationships is way to long and you begin wonder if the premise of the book is every going to happen. Incorporating the details of the various aircraft and other military hardware into the actual story line would have been better..

Once everything started to happen the story line picked up and moved along at a good pace. I struggled through the first 60% but finished the remaining 40% in one sitting. There are three more books in the series but I don't know if I'll go on to book 2.
The author goes into excruciating detail about the characters and WW2 machines, but at the same time, I don't feel I know either of the two main characters that well (Preston and Martie). Maybe that is not fair - he does develop the character Carlos really well. The author clearly loves aircraft, but he spends way too much time on them. Maybe an airplane junkie would appreciate the detail. The story proceeds very slowly, similar to the Jack Ryan novels written by Tom Clancy if you are familiar (100 + pages of tedium). yet unlike Clancy who wastes many pages on characters, only to drop the character and never discuss again, Wade's characters remain. I've read books 1 and 2 now. While I am only giving this 3 stars, more for the sometimes rough writing style, the stories in both novel fly along deep into the books. I could not put the books down - very entertaining. Yet also seems unrealistic in terms of the lop-sided victories. And finally, the cover art of the plane and nuclear mushroom cloud make sense. I will read book 3. Written by Kevin McGrath through our family's account.
Title notwithstanding, there is no invasion yet in "Invasion USA". This book sets up a series in which much of the world will be crippled by a plot to have all Chinese-made microchips (outside of China itself) fail at a certain time. The scenes of fuel-laden aircraft crashing into American cities, while all rescue vehicles are themselves rendered inoperable, are intentionally apocalyptic. Almost all communications are likewise knocked out. These effects have been rendered by other authors as well or better, albeit as the result of EMP bursts, but there is no faulting Mr. Wade's attention to detail. It is a rather briefly told climax, however.

A group of antique airplane enthusiasts has gathered in North Carolina for a New Year's celebration of their hobby. Setting up their back story takes fully 3/4 of the book. They have planes, guns, and a ham radio, making them a uniquely well-equipped center of organized resistance. There is another group of airplane crash survivors in New York, whose story is described. They have absolutely no connection to the main story of this volume, so they must play a role in one of the next books. There are people in California who are connected to the N.C. group and talk to them on the ham radio network. Creating these pockets of people and their stories leaves little time for much else, and this has left a book that cannot be recommended (or even fairly evaluated) on its own merits.

Unfortunately, I must agree with previous reviewers who noted the stilted dialogue and obsessive attention to details that only a pilot or engineer could love. However, there is buried in all that a premise (WWII era aircraft brought back to fight for the USA) that deserves at least continuing on to the second book.
